Naidu held meeting with Telangana leaders on Wednesday in the wake of reports that a large number of leaders might quit the party and join the TRS if he did not take a favourable decision on the Telangana, after the disclosure of Srikrishna Committee report on Thursday.
Another BC leader from TDP leader V M Naragoni quit the TDP in protest against Naidu’s dilly dallying on Telangana.
The T-leaders told the party president that the party could survive to some extent, if he formed a separate outfit for Telangana, so that the latter could raise its voice in favour of separate state. It would also bring him the much-needed credibility on the issue.
Naidu, who was reluctant to split the party, finally agreed to consider the same under pressure. He is still apprehensive that he might lose control over the party and it might result in emergence of alternative leadership in the party. At the same time, it would also cause a heart burn among the Seemandhra TDP leaders for succumbing to the T-leaders, thereby weakening his own position.
